South Kensington

South Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is home to a number of the world’s leading museums. These include, The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum along with the Baden Powell Museum and Aga Khan foundation.

South Kensington is located between Kensington in the north and Chelsea in the south. As a result the area is highly desirable. The make up of property is somewhat different, with the great majority comprising flats, either purpose built or conversion of large stucco rendered former houses. Many of the roads benefit from garden squares and this further enhances the grandeur to these homes.

South Kensington has its own thriving community, the shops and amenities are concentrated around the underground stations of (South Kensington and Gloucester Road). The small high end shopping enclave of Brompton Cross is located just to the south, en-route to Chelsea and Knightsbridge.

A colossal draw to the area is the French Lycee, the original one to London. As a result of this, French families have been and remain particularly keen to move into the area. Further encouraged by the large lateral apartments that are typical of South Kensington and reminiscent of Paris. This immediate area has over the years found itself referred to as the ‘French Ghetto’. This has encouraged other Europeans to move into the area.
