Fitzrovia

Arguably, one of the more recently named locations in London.

Fitzrovia sits between Marylebone in the west and Bloomsbury in the east, bounded by the roads of Portland Place and Tottenham Court Road. It is a small area, comprising mixed residential and office space. There is little retail in this specific area, of course Oxford Street is but a block away, but there is a vast and diverse range of restaurants. Positioned immediately to the north of Oxford Street and Soho the area enjoys fantastic access to the West end facilities yet it is its own quiet and eclectic village. It lies in the City of Westminster and the London Borough of Camden.

Fitzrovia is very popular with British and increasingly Europeans and Americans who are made aware of it via the universities and the highly prized residential area of Marylebone, which is adjoins.

The housing stock is mostly flats, purpose built or conversion.  There are houses but these are scarce in number and even more rarely come to the market.

The architecture is principally Victorian and Post War. Many of the office buildings have been converted into residential, or have been demolished in favour of new build schemes. 

One of the main residential re-developments in the area is the conversion of the Old Middlesex Hospital, Fitzroy Place. This has proved incredibly popular with both the ex-pat market and British purchasers.

The price differentials between Marylebone and Fitzrovia is negligible. It is important to remember that most of the north eastern corner of Fitzrovia is owned by London University and therefore is not relevant for owner occupiers.
